A Promise to Future Generations
Attention all undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and professors!
Sign up with "A Promise to Future Generations" to receive updates about this initiative that originated in the Department of Civil Engineering and is now going University-wide!
What is "A Promise to Future Generations?"
It is a voluntary promise - an active choice made by students who believe they have a duty to protect the rights of future generations to enjoy this bountiful earth. It challenges engineers to carefully consider the consequences of decisions made in both their personal and professional lives for future generations.
Students active in the Promise initiative will have the opportunity to attend exciting events that strive to put the Promise values into practice while also participating in discussions with their peers and previous signatories about current issues surrounding the protection of the rights of future generations.
Students graduating this year, graduate students, staff and professors will have to opportunity to participate in the 2011 Promise Signing Ceremony. The Signing Ceremony is where signatories formally commit to the values of the Promise with their peers in front of their friends and family (sample document attached). The inaugural signing ceremony was held on June 19, 2009 and had over 80 signatories and this year will mark the third annual signing ceremony! Though this initiative began in the Department of Civil Engineering, we feel this is an important commitment for engineers all disciplines...
This year ALL graduating students, graduate students, staff and professors from across the University are invited to join us in for the upcoming signing ceremony in June 2011.
Please send us an email with your NAME, DISCIPLINE AND EMAIL ADDRESS if you have any questions, wish to sign the Promise, or request a copy: promisetofuturegen@gmail.com
